The Hydrogen VET forum in Spa is an initiative organized under the European Skills Agenda by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the MissionH24 and its partners Automotive Skills Alliance, GreenSkillsforH2 and Skills Alliance for Industrial Symbiosis, as part of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. The event organization is co-supported by the FLAMENCO project.
The event took place between May 9 and May 11, 2024. to support refining the skills needed for Europe’s climate-neutral future.
After having successfully completed the pre-requisite online trainings and following the selection process, 20 teachers in vocational education and training (VET) have been invited to participate in the face-to-face event in Spa – an immersive experience filled with interactive workshops, expert meetings, and exciting site visits.
This forum went beyond theory; It offered practical insights into fuel cells, hydrogen-powered engines, safety protocols, and more. The Day 1 program’s highlights included:
- Introduction to hydrogen (H2) technologies, such as fuel cells.
- Exploring the H2 market in Europe.
- Overview of production pathways and renewable H2 production.
- Understanding the general relevance of Green Skills and Transversal Skills, covering digital, methodological, social, and personal skills.
- Delving into skills for Industrial Symbiosis and Energy Efficiency, including affected job profiles and classified skills.
- Exploring the role of trainers, teachers, and middle management in teaching and training H2 storage and H2 internal combustion engines.
Day 2 offered an amazing opportunity for hands-on training and checking out two H2 prototypes with the teams. Participants also had the chance to visit the Hydrogen Village and discuss with experts before witnessing the demo lap of the H2 car in action.
