In our ongoing series introducing the regions behind the Automotive Skills Alliance (ASA), today’s spotlight shines on Trnava region – Slovakia’s automotive powerhouse and a frontrunner in driving the green and digital transformation of Europe’s mobility sector.

Located in western Slovakia, the Trnava Self-Governing Region stands as one of the country’s key industrial and innovation hubs. In a nation where the automotive industry generates nearly 50% of industrial production and 40% of exports, Trnava plays a central role in shaping the future of mobility and manufacturing.
To secure long-term competitiveness, the region is implementing a comprehensive automotive transformation strategy that focuses on:
– Developing industry clusters and innovation networks,
-Investing in education and workforce upskilling, and
-Creating innovation centres and incubators for start-ups and SMEs in digitalisation and green mobility.
Through strong partnerships with leading OEMs such as Stellantis Slovakia, ZF, Schaeffler, and Eissmann, and close cooperation with universities and research institutions, Trnava is building an ecosystem where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
The region also works with Bizzcom s.r.o. in robotics and automation, SHARK.AERO in ultralight aircraft manufacturing, and JESS a.s. on hydrogen technologies for regional transport — reinforcing its role as a hub for advanced technologies.
With an unemployment rate of just 3.45% (2024) and one of the most skilled workforces in Slovakia, Trnava is not only an industrial powerhouse but also a region looking firmly to the future — ready to lead Europe’s transition toward green and digital mobility.
