On 5 March, the European Commission presented the Industrial Action Plan for the European automotive sector. The Automotive Skills Alliance (ASA) welcomes the plan, and especially its recognition of skills and the social dimension within the key priorities in the transition of the automotive sector.
As the automotive sector evolves, critical skills shortages remain a major challenge. While existing initiatives, including ASA, are already addressing this issue, the Action Plan acknowledges that more is needed. Europe needs a coordinated and streamlined approach to skills development – focusing on collaboration, updating skills intelligence, and creating and delivering training courses – across European and regional levels. The academy builds on existing examples and streamlines the access.
Looking ahead, ASA continues its work on practical actions and solutions. That’s why we propose the development of the Automotive Mobility Ecosystem Academy, a one-stop hub for upskilling and reskilling across the ecosystem and to support innovation and attractiveness within and of the automotive sector.
The Action Plan will help accelerate these efforts, strengthening the sector’s capacity to innovate and ensuring that the workforce is ready for the challenges ahead.
