On 5 March, the European Commission unveiled the Union of Skills plan, a strategy to improve access to skills for individuals and industries across Europe. As job requirements evolve due to technological advancements, workers struggle to keep up, and businesses cannot find the right talent. The Union of Skills aims to address this challenge by improving access to skills for industry and providing individuals with the opportunities needed to reach their full potential.
The Automotive Skills Alliance (ASA) welcomes this initiative, particularly its focus on sectoral skills development and strategic sector support, while ensuring horizontal collaboration on transversal challenges. ASA also strongly supports the integration of the review and implementation of targeted EU Skills Academies among the key deliverables.
ASA has consistently highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to skills development and advocated for launching the Automotive Mobility Ecosystem Academy, which would serve as a one-stop shop for upskilling, reskilling, and industry-education cooperation in the sector, as outlined in its position paper from November 2024.
